Christopher Taylor Bio Picture

I'm Christopher Taylor.  I love storytelling.

I took an interest in this class because I've always enjoyed videogames as a storytelling medium.  They're completely unique in the way they allow us to look at narrative, because they're interactive.  It sort of forces the architects of games to open up possibilities in the way it imparts information and moves its story forward.  So I took this class, not only to explore that aspect of games, but learn more about them and the gaming industry in general, both to provide context for my interest and simply out of pure curiosity.

I'm a Newspapers major, English minor, but I frankly take a lot more English classes than journalism usually.  When I'm all growed up, I wants to be a career writer, for every medium I can get my hands on. So anything I can learn about any storytelling medium is integral to that.

Priyom Haider Profile PictureI'm a senior, about to graduate with two degrees, Finance and Telecommunications. As odd as it appears because of two different directions, sometimes you gotta study something upon influence from your folks.

I chose Telecommunications because that is where my main interest is at, at video production. I hope to work with and possibly get a major internship with a film production company soon, and of course long term goals include pursuing acting.

Besides video games of course, some of my other areas of interest include food, movies, wwe, music, and weight lifting. I am total fitness freak. Anyone who goes to Ramsey weight room, knows who I am. ( I own it lol)

I am also a part time fashion-ediotrial, fitness, and underwear model.

Now of course video games! As you see I'm a foreign guy, originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I had many systems modded. (that's right I don't buy games for 50$) Starting from ps1 to ps2. My fav is action-adventure and role playing. First game I ever owned was Mortal Kombat 1 in Sega Mega Drive 2. (not genesis) I would have probably had my PS3 had they not cut off the 60GB models. By the way for "insiders", the PS3 still does not have an official modchip in the "market" yet. I guess by the time they have one and can burn blue-rays, I'm well over my 30s...

Final Fantasy 7 - Sony and Square-Enix need to just launch the remake for the PS3 and enough with the demo already. It will be the greatest thing since sliced bread if they launch it.:)

Michael Colón Profile PictureHello! I am Michael. I am a fourth year Telecommunication Arts student. My emphasis is video production, but I am also interested in theatre and interactive media. I love meeting and learning from people.

I started playing videogames as a child with the Sega Genesis, and since then have grown up playing console games. I am interested in the social aspects of multiplayer games as well as the online experience. These days I play Call of Duty casually on Xbox Live. My gamertag is Migdug. Other games I enjoy are Super Smash Bros Brawl, Zuma, and Gears of War 2.

Tyler Estep Profile PictureI'm a fourth-year (I'd say senior, but not sure when I'm graduating) journalism student, specifically newspapers. I've been writing sports for The Red & Black for almost all my time at Georgia. I currently cover football and the absolutely adorable Gym Dogs.

I have a twin brother that doesn't go to UGA.

I kind of drink a lot, though I'm trying to temper that because of recent heart complications.

I'm not much of a gamer (I was more or less forced to sign up for this class by the girl I was dating at the time of registration. She was/is a huge game nerd. Sexy, right?)

I'll play Madden every now and then, though I'm terrible at it, and, back in the day when I had money and could afford to buy games, I was an absolute badass at Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

If I had the money, I would buy a Wii just to bowl and play Bomberman.

Sam Mazer Profile Picture

I'm Sam Mazer, and this is a short history of how I got to where I am now. In two parts.

Part One: Computers

My first experience was an old Windows 3.1 box my family salvaged from my father's Georgia Pacific office. It was on this humble 486 where I learned the joy of 256 colors and booting from floppy disks. In between parent-encouraged sessions of Number Munchers and Super Solvers, I burned through early point-and-click adventure games, particularly the King's Quest series and a set of two Star Trek adventure games.

John Pope Profile PictureI really don't know what to say. My name is John Pope and I am originally from Augusta, Georgia. I really enjoy playing video games. Unfortunately, I rarely have the time to do so. I am a senior at UGA and I am trying to graduate in May depending ofcourse on my ability to pass my classes. I am 25, so I am probably one of the oldest seniors on campus. It's not like I have been in college all this time. I took a couple of years off and worked. I wouldn't suggest it. I guess I will add more stuff to this profile later if that is possible. Late.

Wesley Dorough Profile PictureI am a junior tele arts major form Albany Georgia. I have been playing video games ever since I can remember. From Duck hunt on NES to Halo 3 now. My parents were always particular with the game choice when I was little so I would have to play things such as mortal combat over at friends houses. I never thought I would still be playing games until I played halo on xbox. I actually went out and bought an xbox because of that game. I got an xbox live account (wesd24) with halo 2 and have been playing ever since. Well, there is life after halo, I began playing sports games and most of the titles I own are Electronic Arts sports games. I am really interested in the competitive aspect of games (league play, rankings and team play). All my life I have been competing in sports (soccer mostly) and it has just been recently that I have figured out why I play games. It fills a void in my life. I miss competing, it may sound juvenile but these games are highly competitive and I gain a lot of satisfaction from them.

I have also realized through the first few weeks of this class how cut-throat the business side of gaming is. That is something I find interesting. Not that it is unexpected because the business side of everything thing is like that but with gaming and game design it seems much more focused.

Another aspect I have been interested in is how the stock market reacts to games and title releases. I have thought there is a lot of money to be made in the business and video games is something i feel comfortable in investing.

As far as career i hope to one day be a major motion film director (I know big dreams but it is nice to have some thing to shoot for).

Colin Hatmaker Profile Picture

i'm a fourth year advertising major here at uga.  the main reason i chose advertising was that since i spend so much time in front of the tv, i might as well attempt to make it better.  like a lot of guys my age, i grew up on video games.  in fact, i've played video games so long i got mega man tattooed on my leg (in case you're curious, he has the power of elec man from mega man 1).  though time to play video games has increasingly diminished as i've gotten older, i do try to make time to play WoW, left 4 dead, and a couple other games when possible.

outside of school i work as a manager at the blockbuster in watkinsville and am currently working on my music.  other interests include comics and adult swim programming.

as an ad. major, i think video games are an interesting medium for advertising.  you know it works well when you hardly notice it, but man it blows when it's blatantly obvious.

and no, i don't endorse gang warfare, but i do enjoy their hand signals.

Kevin Letz Profile Picture

I'm 21 years old, majoring in Telecommunication Arts, and minoring in religion (just for kicks). I am really big into doing game design stuff. I spend a lot of time working on a fairly large-scale modification for Unreal Tournament, which is about a third of the way complete now, and I focus on making the gameplay as psychotic/intense/insane, yet fun, as possible. I've gotten pretty good at balancing level-specific gameplay, weapons/health/items, and overarching thematic/strategic arcs in the mod's style, so I hope to be able to use this work as an example of what I'm capable of when I go out looking for a job.

If you are bored, you can see some example videos of things I and my partner in crime have made for the mod. Look here: http://youtube.com/user/Waffnuffly

Also, this picture is the most recent one I have of myself. I was trying on clothes for a funeral, and my mom and sister wanted to ensure I looked good. My mom was out of town, so I had my dad take this picture and we emailed it to her. AMAZING STORY also my dog is the best. Sorry. Your dog isn't the best; mine is. I don't live with my dog (or the other two dogs), though; they live at home with my parents (in this house).

Austin Pratt Profile Picture

My name is Austin Pratt. I'm a third year newspapers major, film studies minor, and new media student. I'm from Syracuse, NY and moved down here just before high school.

I've been playing video games since I was really young. I was a big sonic fan and I loved the old school madden football games and NBA jam. I still play video games a lot and I would say FPS games tend to be my thing.

Hopefully one day I'll get a job at a newspaper, magazine or whatever wants to hire me as a movie critic or sports writer or even a video game magazine doing reviews.

Sarah Fox Profile Picture

I am the girl in the class.

Aside from my gender, I am also a triple major. I would say that this came to be more out of indecision than ambition. I study Film Studies, English and Telecommunications.  As a reader of text I would say that I am most typically a new critic, but am coming to realize that most of my Grady classes emphasize more of a Birmingham School cultural studies approach. I am looking forward to loosening up my formalist stance.

Outside of school, I work at Cine and the UGA Public Affairs Office. I am the Public Affairs director and deejay at WUOG 90.5FM. I have had a variety of specialty shows with topics ranging from underground, traditional country, soundtrack to psychedelic and progressive rock. I suppose my favorite type of music is Krautrock.

After I earn my degrees, I hope to attend graduate school. I would like to have practical experience and knowledge to prepare me for a Master of Science degree. I hope that this course will aid in my progression and help me continue my education.
